Deftones Interview
Chi Cheng answers Veronica

Since 1988, the Deftones have been effortlessly creating music, and additionally establishing a legacy. We had a chance to receive some insight from their very own bass player, Chi Cheng. We've also given you a chance to participate in our exclusive Deftones contest, (to celebrate the release of the new Deftones album "Saturday Night Wrist", we're giving away TWO pink Nokia cell phones, and FIVE copies of the new album! Contest link also at bottom of interview.)
Read then GO!

Veronica: Since your album Deftones in 2003, Saturday Night Wrist has been highly anticipated by the public. Tell us about your new record. Feel it's worth the wait?

Chi Cheng: I think that SNW is the best album we've done, and well, I swear it seems no one had to wait as long as me. Yes it's worth it.

V: B-sides and Rarities was the last release, in between Deftones and Saturday Night Wrist. What thoughts were behind the selections chosen to be featured on this album?

C: We did B-sides as a thank you to our fans to both celebrate our accomplishment of releasing records for 10 years, and also to give our fans something special.

V: This year marked 11 years of Deftones releases, right? How long were you compiling music before finally recording? What marked your formation?

C: We've been together and writing music since '88. Yes, we're that old.

V: Are there any side projects we can see from any of you?

C: We're doing a plus size Abercrombie catalogue.

V: You're on tour. Almost two months, it seems. You sold out most of your Southern California shows. Feel Good? How has the new record gone over with the fans?

C: It's great to be back out on the road. I'm grateful that our fans still love and care about us.

V: From your complete discography, which are your favorite songs to date? Favorite songs to play live?

C: Anything and everything.

V: What do you guys use for inspiration while recording, practicing, playing... even, live? I mean, do you meditate and shit? Hahaha...

C: I used to meditate 3 times a day but as far as musical inspiration, I think we get that from each other – just like cheap STD's.

V: How about music as inspiration? What?

C: Everything is inspiration to me.

V: You've gone off and become successful at doing what you love. What was life back then and what is life now?

C: Life is always up and down regardless of time and space.

V: How did you feel the first time you stepped on stage for a live performance, to a pretty decent sized audience?

C: I'm always nervous before a show. No matter what size.

V: First show you ever sold out?

C: Cattle Club in Sacto.

V: Favorite Place to Play?

C: On-stage or with the missus.

V: What do you do to avoid cabin fever from being stuck on a bus for the majority of your career? I mean, I can imagine that it is much better than "van life." How was your first experience on a tour bus?

C: Great – no more drinking and driving.

V: If you could send any message out to your fans what would it be?

C: Thanks for the patience –I hope it's always worth it.

V: Is there anything you want to say, which you've never had a chance to?

C: I'm not gay – I just want to perforate all of Brad Pitt's orifices.
